10 most-read articles 2022: pet food inflation, Mars, PFAS
Several of the most-read news articles and blogs on Petfood Industry’s website focused on inflation in 2022. Although inflation has tapered off during the year, pet owners may still be concerned about the cost of feeding their pets in 2023.
Although 2022 had fewer major mergers and acquisitions than some previous years, one of the biggest news items of the year was Mars Petcare’s purchase of Champion Petfoods. The press release about the transaction and a blog about its ramifications were in the top 10 most-read articles. Even an earlier article speculating about the potential for Mars Petcare to acquire Champion was in the top 20.
The third most-read article dealt with a rising issue affecting pet food packaging suppliers. In 2022, pet food customers increasingly focused on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) used on pet food bags. Some states have already started regulating the use of PFAS on pet food packages, and more may follow in 2023.
